
The goal of the conference was to determine areas of need in the management of cancer in Nigeria and the African continent. Federal and State Teaching Hospitals were well represented. The event was declared open by the honorable Minister for Health, Prof. Lambo.

During this program, October was declared a national cancer awareness month. A national cancer commission was set up with Prof. Durosinmi-Etti of the Federal Capital Territory Commission as the chairman. The group from US visited the National Hospital as part of the discovery mission. We were well received by the management of the hospital led by the chief medical Director, Dr. Z. Ajuwon.
