EDUCATION:
Dr. Ukwu received her medical degree from the University of Jos, Nigeria (1982); completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Baptist Hospital, Nashville, TN (1989); and Fellowship- in Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN (1991).

PROFESSIONAL WORK:
Dr. Ukwu is a pharmaceutical industry executive with extensive global regulatory experience across all therapeutic platforms.  She started her pharmaceutical industry career at Merck & Co., Inc. in 1992, becoming the Head of Vaccine Regulatory development and Vice President Worldwide Regulatory Affairs in 1998.  Dr. Ukwu joined Wyeth Pharmaceuticals (October 2004) as Vice President, Global Regulatory Affairs. Dr. Ukwu has overseen the successful original regulatory process for 14 new products (10 drugs; 4 biologics) with 12 approved—a major contribution to human health.  Dr. Ukwu has played a strong leadership role and made significant contributions to the regulatory and medical profession.

ASSOCIATIONS:
Fellow, American College of Physicians (FACP); Diplomat, American Board of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases;  Member of the American Medical Association; Infectious Diseases Society of America; American Academy of Pharmaceutical Physicians; Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA); Africa Cancer Care Inc. and Regulatory Affairs Professional Society.  She is a Professor at the Graduate School of Pharmacy, Division of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs, Temple University, Pennsylvania.

RECOGNITION:
Dr. Ukwu has received many awards for excellence including: Award for 100 Most Important Blacks in Technology – 2006; the USA-Africa Class Award for Ambassador of Scientific Excellence 2005; Women of Color Research Sciences & Technology Emerald Honors Award for Research Excellence (2003); Nigerian Excellence in Science and Technology Award (London, 2001); The Nigerian Peoples Forum Health Science Achievement Award (2001); Golden Torch Award for Outstanding Women in Technology (1999); Nigerian Peoples Award for Outstanding Contribution to Science (October 1997); Harlem YMCA Award for Black Achievers in Industry (1997). Medical School  “Alumni Excellence Award” (October 2001); Queen’s School Enugu, Nigeria, High school alumni first prestigious “Role Model Award” (October 2004) at the occasion of the 50th Jubilee Celebration.

FAMILY:
Dr. Ukwu is married to Dr. Isaac Ukwu and they are blessed with three children, Victor, Yvonne, Henry.
